My Promise to You

Psalm 69: By Grace

“But I pray to you, Lord, in the time of your favour;
in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.”

Psalm 69:13

Despite being undeserving of his attention, God extends a tremendous privilege to us by opening his ears to our prayer.

It is one of the prime expressions of his love. We are hopeless in our sin and helpless in our suffering. But in his love, he throws open the door to his sovereignty and urges us to appeal to his majestic power for forgiveness and rescue. That we have a God who has such a posture toward us is remarkable. By rights, he should slam that door in our face. By grace, however, he longs to welcome us back into the safety of his care.

Assurance of safety is perhaps the greatest desire of all humankind. To be able to step into tomorrow with confidence that we are accepted, loved, and at peace is true freedom.  God is the sole source of such freedom. We need salvation. He alone can provide it. We need forgiveness. He alone can grant it.

All of that comes to us, not in the time of our strength and ability, but in the time of his favour. It is by grace we are saved, all stemming from his love for us, so richly presented in Christ. By God’s gift of unmerited favour, we find safety.

Grace: not our reward, but his gift.
Love: not because of our beauty, but because of his kindness
Assurance: not because of our integrity, but because of his.
