Psalm 65: Hope For All The Earth
“You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Saviour,
Psalm 65:5
the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas…”
How good is it to have a responsive God! Not only does he hear our prayers, but in his sovereignty, he acts on them. He answers us with awesome and righteous deeds.
Of course, he doesn’t always give us what we want. And that’s a good thing. My desires are so corrupted by sin. Even the best of them are likely to be motivated by an inherent selfishness. For God to grant these would not be the best thing for me.
He knows what I need, though. In my sin, I need his help, guidance and salvation. I need him to work powerfully for me and in me constantly.
His power is my only hope. It’s the only hope anyone in this world has. Wonderfully, the faithfulness of God’s power has been demonstrated time and time again throughout human history.
Of course, the prime example of this, and the act of God nothing can surpass, is his resurrection of Jesus from his atoning death for our sin. In this, he has demonstrated his power to satisfy our greatest need: the destruction of sin and death. He answers the cries of our souls with the precious life of his Son.
What a great privilege it is to carry the hope of his promise to the ends of the earth, both in our hearts and on our lips!
