My Promise to You

Psalm 55: Cast Your Cares

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Psalm 55:22

Trusting in the Lord is a fundamental response to his grace. As the creator, God is the source of all things. Nothing comes to us apart from his provision. When we understand ourselves primarily as recipients of his grace rather than earners of his merit, we align ourselves perfectly with the fundamental order of things. This is the essential posture of faith: forever recognising that our lives are singularly supplied and sustained by nothing more than what God alone provides.

In this way, our daily surrender to our heavenly father in faith, our continual casting of cares and concerns on to him, is an act of absolute righteousness. That is, it is an act of perfect conformity to his will. God is love. His entire existence is directed outward to the service of others. He exists to give life and shine light and sustain souls. We defy his will to serve when we disregard him and surrender ourselves to other idolatrous things. But when we turn from idols to serve the true and living God, we find the perfect life in all its righteousness, built on the unshakeable foundation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the bread of life who provides abundantly for our every need.

We need always to remember that we are saved by grace through faith, not by works, so no one can boast. Let us surrender to his fatherly love in increasing measure. Let us always cast our cares on him.
