Psalm 24: The King of Glory
“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Psalm 24:7-8
Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
Desperately cries
My weak wounded soul
Blood-stained and scarred
By sin’s scarlet hold
O for a saviour,
O for a king
O for a victory
over death’s sting
Hear battle cries
From Calvary’s cross
“Father forgive them”
His life for the lost
It is now finshed,
the battle is won
Feel heaven tremble,
this is God’s Son.
On streams of tears
the faithful ones come
To honour their champion
To adorn their son.
But death could not hold him,
and glory surrounds
“Christ is now risen”
the cry that resounds
Joyfully cries
My comforted heart
Burdens now lifted
As freedom imparts
Death to our mourning
Light to our path
Life in me dawning
A precious new start
Trumpets will cry
And archangels sing
When Christ in victory
will come riding in
Lift up your heads,
throw open your gates
Welcome your saviour
The glorious King
