Psalm 119: The Faithful Word
May your unfailing love be my comfort,
Psalm 119:76 (NIV)
according to your promise to your servant
When worldly treasures perish and fade
And their charms can’t provide for tomorrow
How can a man who is thirsting for hope
Become freed and relieved of his sorrow?
Where can he turn in the hour of thin light
When shadows reach out and grow long?
God’s word in the dark; a promise that’s sure
Offers hope with an evergreen song
Comfort of comfort, worn soul’s lullaby
Kindness to silence tempestuous cries
Hope for the hopeless, the saviour who died
Conquering death and now off’ring new life
Unfailing love flows mercifully down
In a cascade of life giving light
Christ risen saviour, God’s only son
Takes my burden and puts shame to flight
A colourless frame surrenders to hope
When it’s soaked in this eternal word
Warmed by the promise of unfailing love
With his strength I will gladly step forward.
