My Promise to You

Psalm 4: In Peace, I Will Sleep

“In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Psalm 4:8

Though long days should weary me
And the light a moment yield
Still at night I’ll rest in you
My Lord, my strength, my shield.

Though earthly trials burden me
And weakness seize my frame
Still your love will raise me up
To grant my heavenly claim

Though your foes beat on the gate
And threaten all that’s dear
Still you’ll be my refuge
My safety and my cheer

Though sickness should descend on me
And death tomorrow come
Still your Spirit’s life will give
New life through your dear Son.

Though the light will soon depart
From this embattled stage
Still your grace will lead me to
Where glory never fades.

Though sleep will overtake me
And weariness give way
Still I’ll be at endless peace
For you alone have saved.
