Psalm 114: Soften my heart
Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
Psalm 114:7–8
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water
A Prayer
Gracious Lord: you have adorned human history with the marks of your might and mercy. Through your people Israel you made yourself known as the God who commands all creation. The seas move at your command, the mountains tremble in obedience to your voice.
Rocks melt into springs of life in your presence. What once would weigh us down yields to your majesty, and is transformed instead into a source of life and freedom. You subdue the most hostile enemy; you soften the hardest heart; you do what no other can do for you alone are God.
But you exercise all of your might in mercy. Working for the good of those who love you. Lord thank you for your faithfulness to your people. Thank you that we can come into your presence despite our rebellious nature. Soften me Lord in your kindness; grow in me a deepening trust and reverence for you. Anchor me on your timeless and unending faithfulness. And let me rejoice in your presence.
Amen
