Psalm 104: Light of Life
“The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
Psalm 104:2,10
he stretches out the heavens like a tent…
…He makes springs pour water into the ravines;
it flows between the mountains…”
“Our hope springs eternal…”
Purer than we can imagine and more potent than we can comprehend, God alone is the source and sustainer of all life. Every good thing issues solely from him.
As he envelops himself in light, God radiates his eternal goodness to us in a display of unmitigated grace. He doesn’t remain hidden. He makes himself known. He carves out space so people can experience life and flourish within the boundless confines of his glory.
We need never doubt our Lord’s goodness to us. While the world may cause us to question, and while it may even entice us at times, we need only look to Christ to see the eternal provision of our God. As John 1 so profoundly tells us: “In him is life, and that life was the light of men”. In him, God stretches the tent of his life-giving glory over us and pours his life-giving Spirit into us.
Because of this, we can sing with utmost confidence that “our hope springs eternal”. In Christ, tomorrow is always sure, and so praise will ever be our anthem.
