Psalm 14: Down From Heaven
“The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind
Psalm 14:2
to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.”
A Prayer
Almighty God,
Your goodness surrounds us daily. All good things come down from you, the father of lights. The miracles of everyday life are an ever-present reminder of your creative power and your sustaining mercy. Our life comes to us as a gift from your gracious hand.
All creation speaks of your majesty. Your word reveals your unique sovereignty. No life exists apart from you. You deserve our endless devotion and praise.
Yet Lord, we fill our hearts and minds with trivialities. We pursue meaning in things that don’t last. We exchange truth for a lie and worship and serve created things rather than you, our creator.
You look down on us from heaven as the product of your hand, yet see rejection on mass. Despite all you have lavished on us, we fail to honour you as we ought.
Despite this, Lord, you do not abandon us. You draw near to us, coming down from heaven in the person of your Son to rescue us from our rebellion. You bring your righteousness to bear on this sinful world, revealing it in your son and offering it to us through faith in his blood.
Father, enrich us with an increasing appreciation of your amazing grace. Lost you find us, rebellious you reconcile us. Dying, you revive us.
Transform us through the wonder of the gospel to glorify you daily.
In Christ’s name, Amen.
