Psalm 45: Just and Fair
“Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever;
Psalm 45:6
a sceptre of justice will be the sceptre of your kingdom.”
What else outlasts the withering of time
Your word alone endures
Transcending the ends of this fallen world
Yet entering so life can be mine
What sweeter goodness could I hope to know
than your justice, pure and fair
Infallible judgment, governed by love
The comfort of peace in sorrow
What mercy eclipses the burden you lift
From a wayward sinner’s heart
Streams of forgiveness, by grace, full and free
Comes to me as an undeserved gift
What other victory’s more worthy of praise
than that already won
By your blood divine spilled on Calvary’s Hill
Forging hope for now and always
What else surpasses your glorious worth?
No other treasure compares
To the majestic love displayed on the cross
To grant tired souls with new birth
What else can blaze with more radiant splendour
than the glory of your Son?
Breaking the darkness, raised to new life
My soul rings with his love’s surrender
