My Promise to You

Psalm 108: Fathomless Faithfulness

“For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.”

Psalm 108:4

God’s love and God’s faithfulness can’t be separated. Nor can they be surpassed.

His care and concern for us are held secure in his unyielding commitment. He will not let us go. His love will not end. Even if we waver, he will always be there to welcome us home. He will be there for us even if the entire world is against us.

And the scope of that unyielding care reaches beyond our vision. Higher than the heavens, he loves us in ways we don’t even know. We will never be able to fathom or fully appreciate the extent of all he has done or will do for us. From his glorious and everlasting throne room, he governs the affairs of the whole cosmos so that he might serve you and me.  And he won’t stop doing that. Ever.

He loves us not because of who we are or what we have done. His love for us is not derived from how lovable we are or contingent on how well we perform. He loves us because he loves us. He loves us because he has decided to, as an act of His unchanging will. Herein lies the crux of our safety and security: his love and faithfulness together.  What’s more, herein lies the essence of godliness. As a child of this God, I want his love and faithfulness characterised in me.  How I long to grow into his likeness more and more for the sake of those dear to me! I don’t want to be him, but I want to be like him, modelling his committed care daily to those I love. But as safe and secure as I want them to feel in me, I want them to always find safety and security in him even more.
